We will minimize the hazard by managing the risk as low as is reasonably practicable.

Health & Safety Policy

The H&S Statement details the commitment that the Company has made. It is first and foremost a statement of commitment by the directors of the Company to support, implement and provide the necessary resources necessary to ensure that H&S is an integral part of each work process at all levels of the organization.

ASF Shipcare considers the health, safety and welfare of its employees and the protection of the environment to be of top priority in the Company’s everyday activities. It is the Company’s policy to provide and maintain safe and healthy working conditions of all employees, contractors and others that may be affected directly or indirectly by its activities.

The education process and verification of compliance with the H&S policy and procedures is management’s responsibility and forms an integral part of the duties of all managers, supervisors and leading hands in upholding the Company’s policy.|

However, it is incumbent upon all employees and contractors to have a clear duty to exercise self-discipline, maintain an attitude of safety consciousness, prevent injury to themselves and others, and prevent contamination of the environment. The detailed internal arrangements and organization for implementing and monitoring this policy are contained in the Company’s Safety and Operating Manuals.

ASF SHIPCARE has set the following objectives:

  • To establish safe working practices throughout its operation.
  • To provide a safe and healthy workplace and to avoid damage to Company property.
  • To prevent ALL injuries at the workplace.
  • To develop a high degree of safety awareness amongst personnel.
  • To provide personnel with the required skills and support needed to meet the Company’s commitment to health and safety.
  • To ensure that contractors working on the Company’s behalf understand the policies of the Company and implement comparable standards.

Environmental Policy

ASF SHIPCARE conducts all its business activities according to the basic principles for contribution to the “Construction of an Environmental Conservation oriented Society” and “Reduction in environmental loads at all stages of business activities”. The directors of the company are committed to assisting the creation of a society capable of realising sustainable development and with a minimum load on the environment.

ASF SHIPCARE conducts all its business activities by considering reducing environmental load at all stages, including the acquisition of raw materials and supplies, production, product transportation, product use, and waste disposal. To promote these efforts, ASF SHIPCARE collaborates with other industries, including its clients and subcontractors.

Drug & Alcohol Policy

Alcohol Abuse

While alcohol consumption may be considered a social or recreational enhancer, the Company considers alcohol to be a drug that can completely debilitate or limit a person’s ability to function efficiently and safely. The influence of alcohol may seriously degrade a person’s ability to comply with the Company’s health and safety policy and may also endanger the health and safety of other persons.

Therefore, ASF SHIPCARE state unequivocally that:

Any Company employee found to be under the influence of alcohol when reporting for work will be subject to immediate dismissal without recompense, as will any Company-employee found in possession of alcohol or under the influence of alcohol whilst on the job site. The term “job site” is taken to include travelling to and from the job site. The term ‘influence” is taken to mean visible inebriation, olfactory detection. The suspicion of a person being under the influence of alcohol may result in a mandatory breathalyzer or drug test at a medical facility nominated by the Company. Refusal to comply will be considered grounds for dismissal.

Drug Abuse

Any employee found in possession of any illegal substance, whether for his own use or for sale or distribution to others, shall be summarily dismissed without notice or recompense. If in the opinion of the Company, there is enough evidence for criminal charges to be laid, the evidence may be handed over to the appropriate authority.

“Illegal Substance” includes all such chemicals or drugs, which include depressants, stimulants, hallucinogens and deliriants. Chemicals or drugs gained by illegal prescription will also be classed as illegal substances.

It is the responsibility of all employees, who for medical reasons are receiving treatment in the form of prescription drugs or other medication taken on medical advice, to inform their Supervisor of this situation, including the type of medication and the length of treatment. The Company first aid officer advise the Supervisor of any employee who is receiving medical treatment, the medication prescribed and if, in his opinion, the employee is still fit to perform his duties.
